The Dangers Of A Single Story
"I wrote exactly the kinds of stories I was reading: All my characters were white and blue-eyed, they played in the snow."
My reponse to this quote made me realize how strong it is to think of a Nigerian with book smarts and a sense to comperhend what she is saying, feeling like it was necessary to write about the 'white world' that she knew nothing about. It saddens me that the only voice and point of view that she was exposed to was one that was not her own. I fear for people that dont give her a chance with her book, cause I know she is going to make it without people publishing her book. She thought that they only story settings acceptable HAD to be the ones found in the 'white world.'
